OoC:

Concurrent with and before "The Dukes of Time". Yes, it alters, expands
and perhaps changes a bit from the posts it quotes from, but I took a
bit of license to tie my post together. My apologies if this offends;
it was not my intention. I loved all the posts I read and tried my best
to incorporate them all.

[From Chris "Soman Drath"]

Mometarily dazed, Soman realized that he was being held off the deck by
his neck. The grip, like a vice around his neck, was unrelenting; and
extended from the now amorphous arm of Mr. Rea.

Rea: I?m sorry . . .sir. I can?t allow you to do that. Don?t worry,
it?ll all be over soon.

[From Mel "Zena Quetan"]

Seconds later and they were back on the Vanguard, Security were there
as requested.

Zena stepped down from the platform and approached the Security team

"I want you to stay with our guests at all times"

Security escorted Zena and the Vorgons to the bridge where Denville was
waiting for them.

[NEW from Andy "Dominic Cesar Santos"]

"How is he?"

Dr. Xristha Droin turned from the biobed where she had been treating
the captain. Elizabeth Merchant stood a little distance off, observing
them. She seemed the picture of composure, but Xristha looked down to
see Elizabeth massaging the third finger on her left hand. Xristha
filed that away for the future and turned back to Santos.

"I finally stabilized him. It was touch and go for a while, to be
perfectly honest."

Merchant hissed, surprising Xristha.

"He was always a tough son-of-a-gun, wouldn't know when to lay down
and..."

"I know." Xristha cut her short, not really knowing where she was going
and not really wanting to. The Vanguard's chief medical officer
understood what the others had been saying about the captain's
estranged wife.

"You probably think I'm...callous..."

Xristha sighed heavily and turned around. "Elizabeth, it's not my place
to comment about your relationship with Nick--that is, the Captain. If
you have issues with him, perhaps that's better addressed with Jaav."

Elizabeth opened her mouth as if to say something else, then closed her
mouth.

A loud slamming sound, as if of a body being tossed about, suddenly
startled both women, who turned toward the hall.

[Soman Drath and Rea]

Soman couldn't breathe and his vision began to swim, then darken. He
knew that if he blacked out, he would walk with the Prophets.

His limbs felt heavy, and all he wanted to do was lie back and let
events take their course. He couldn't think.

But somewhere, a reserve of strength he developed from the Occupation,
perhaps, he drew what he had left.

He slammed his head back, hoping to connect with "Rea's" nose. It was a
glancing blow, and he only felt a bit of resistance he was hoping for.

Still, he startled Rea, who released his grip on the weapon around
Soman's neck. It was all the opening Soman needed, as he slipped his
fingers between the garrot and his neck. He held on and rotated his
body around, slamming Rea into a bulkhead.

But somehow, the assassin held on.

The noise startled Xristha and Elizabeth in Sickbay, who turned toward
the sound. They moved to investigate, and were nearly trampled by a
sight they would not soon forget--Lt. Quetan flying down the hall,
followed closely by Denville D'Angelo's security team and two Vorgon
visitors.

As soon as they rounded the corner, Denville took in the sight and went
into action. He grabbed Zena and pinned her against the side.

"Get down!" he cried, giving the security personnel a clear line of
sight to Soman and Rea.

"Dammit...just shoot!" Soman cried out.

"Raise that weapon...and I'll snap his neck!" Rea shouted back.

The security team hesitated and Rea rotated Soman so that the first
officer stood between the rescue party and himself.

D'Angelo coolly assessed the situation and reached for his tricorder.

"If you signal the transporter room, Denville, I'll kill him RIGHT NOW.
Weapons down and hands where I can see them."

Soman grimaced, his eyes rolling back. He looked over at Zena, shifting
his eyes at Rea.

Zena squinted her eyes, not understanding.

Then it came to her.

"Charade," she said.

"Wha--?" Rea replied.

"I should have known. We should have all guessed. You were playing
games with us all along: Your name, "Chad Rea," (or whoever you are) is
an anagram of the word 'charade.'"

Zena saw a hint of a grin from behind Soman.

"Very good, lieutenant. I shouldn't have made it so obvious, but I
can't help it. Most people are too stupid to realize it until after I'm
gone."

"Why? Why all this?" D'Angelo asked.

"Ask your captain."

"What did he do?"

"Not what he DID, what he WILL do. Unless I stop him."

"What..."

Even Soman stopped struggling and appeared interested.

"Do not continue this."

The voice of the Vorgon leader, Blix, rang out. He stepped from behind
the security personnel and past Zena and D'Angelo.

All eyes were on him, except for Rea, who seemed even more incensed.

"You. You and your...kind have been trying to irritate us and ruin our
work."

At that moment, a feedback from the Vorgon ship shield systems appeared
on Roch Chase's sensors a moment before the temporal-eventuality shift
struck both ships. The shift had little to no effect on the Vorgons,
who are equipped to handle such hazards of temporal operations.

On the Vanguard, a phenomenon, appearing not unlike a heat mirage,
swept through the deck where Soman, Rea, D'Angelo and Quetan stood.
D'Angelo's eyes opened as he watched it approach. Without hesitation,
he grabbed Quetan out of its path and yelled "Move!" to both the
security team and Soman.

Soman did without hesitation, wriggling out of the grasp of a surprised
"Chad Rea."

Rea wasn't as lucky. He turned around in time to see the wave on top of
him. His eyes went wide. Soman was the only one who saw him at that
moment. For a second, Rea seemed to change form. Then

[From the Away Team]

Soman's assailant, Mr. Rea, disappeared.

[To be concluded]
