So I take it we wont lose Santos because of his rank? If that is the way

If any of you still keep up with emails from the Gamma Fleet group,
you may be aware that Martin Burton has promoted me to the rank of
commodore. It came as a complete surprise, and, the last time I
checked, the Fleet didn't have hard and fast rules about character
promotions at the captain, commodore, commandant and admiral levels.
Some pass the rank on to their characters, and some create new
characters.
I haven't decided what I want to do with Santos yet, and it doesn't
matter yet since the Vanguard is out of contact with Starfleet. If
Santos takes the rank, then I'll assume he was promoted in absentia
and take the rank upon Vanguard's return to normal space. However,
that could be weeks or months away. :-)
In the meantime, I have no problem with Santos being referred to as
"Captain Santos."
