I would like to wish everyone involved in Pride of Sheffield the very best
of success in the New Year in efforts to sustain the National Centre for
Popular Music.
The 2003 Streets to Internet web broadcasts for original songwriters of all
genres will be continuing from inside the NCPM at 2.00 pm on Saturday 1st
February when I will be interviewing Suzy Brain-England, Chief Executive of
the Earth Centre in response to requests from the young people of Sheffield.
If you have any questions that you would like to ask Suzy feel free to
contact me by email at lynne.paris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx If you have any original
music that you wish to be played, please let me know also.
My hope is that Pride in Sheffield can start 2003 by building strong bridges
to align itself with corporate organisations who are able to strengthen
cultural industries in the region. By working with other towns in the
regions who are trying to achieve the same goals, cultural activities will
strengthen the economy and provide clusters of events, activities to attract
business investment to a corporate identity for culture. It's time to raise
the bar and demonstrate the energy and creativity of the community, that I,
as a Community Champion, have experienced at first hand. In order to achieve
this credibility the Community needs to present itself in a way that is
recognised as professional by appropriate organisations.

Firstly can I personally thank everyone who has contributed to PRIDE -
however small or large. What a busy few months we have had! - the letters,
the emails, the talks, the meetings, in the paper, on the internet, in the
street - however & wherever - you've done it - so -
THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH!!
Secondly apologies for being a bit elusive on the campaign communications
recently. The festive season has been very very festive and combined with a
workload the likes of which I have never encountered before I must say the
pressure has nearly been too much - but nothing a bit of sleep and the odd
turkey dinner won't sort out.
SOZ!!
... TAKING A BREATHER ...
For the first time since the campaign began in August I have had the time
today to sit down and consider what has actually been achieved. I looked
back over the freelist archive, the newspaper cuttings, the campaign diary,
the photos, the notes from meetings - all the 'stuff' that accumulated so
rapidly. I felt the sense of achievement that many of you have communicated
to me and others in the campaign which can be really hard to hear or
recognise when you're in the thick of it. Quite simply - it felt great.
:-) !!
... LOVE & PRIDE ...
I hope the short break brings rest and inspiration. If you are with family,
friends, lovers or whoever - find some time for yourselves and each other,
share LOVE, share PRIDE and return in the New Year ready for
action...because believe me - it's only just begun.
... 2003 - WHAT WILL IT BRING? - PEOPLE PRIDE >> PEOPLE POWER ...
We will be meeting the Hallam, the Students Union, Yorkshire Forward,
Sheffield One and the City Council to help create a positive and sustainable
future for the NCPM as a public centre for cultural and creative activities.
We will be writing to all the councillers, the MP's and the VIP's and
letting them know exactly how PRIDE has made us feel about our community,
our city and OUR FUTURE!!
We will be asking YOU to decide what YOU want to happen to Pride in
Sheffield - by the people & for the people.
