[ncolug] vm

I have been running Vista-32 in a VM for about 24 hours now. It loaded with no complaints, but didn't have network or correct video until tools were loaded. No sound. It definitely sees both processors. For some reason, it says I have an LSI Ultra-320 adapter, and an iSCSI adapter. I got the Vista driver for the Audigy 2 from Creative, but it just complains that I don't have one.

When running, (doing nothing) it uses 487MB RAM and keeps both processors between 80 and 100% constantly. But it runs fast enough, after tools are installed. The fanciest thing I have done so far is install a network printer (those who have lived with the "local printer - TCP/IP printer" thing all these years will be pleased to know that TCP/IP printers are now "network" printers.)

It seems to always be very busy accessing the virtual CD drive, and the hard disk - the interesting part is that this is with no CD in the drive. If I try to run Ubuntu at the same time, it crawls. Ubuntu is also now telling me I don't have the tools installed again, even though I installed them before. I think maybe because auto-update updated the kernel.

Lots fewer "OK" and "Are you sure?" buttons - when you tell it, "shut down," down it goes.

I tried switching from Gnome to XFCE on the host, no difference. Played with some settings in the virtual (Phoenix) BIOS, no difference.
