VMWare says that running full-screen is always much faster than windowed...

Loaded 32-bit Ubuntu, and it comes up just fine, at normal speed. I guess they really meant it when they said "support for 64-bit/2 processors - experimental."

An review I read today sings the virtues of "Parallels Workstation for Windows and Linux" - this $50 competitor of VMware will run it's virtual machines FASTER than native! And they support MACs as hosts... They have a trial - http://parallels.com/en/products/workstation/

If they supported 64-bit I would buy it today.

In keeping with our Virtual theme here lately I've completed my final setup of my laptop.

I've got Ubuntu 6.06 as my host running all my lovely apps. The one quirk is that 3-D isn't quite right yet. I'm sure it's an issue with my xorg.conf file; though, it doesn't bug me enought that I'll mess with it.

I have XP running as a virtual machine. It has a network interface that is NAT through whichever laptop interface is working. I had issues with XP not wanting to activate properly. I had to make a call to MS and even talk to a real live person (read Indian). He gave me activation numbers and all I had to tell him was this was the CD that came with the laptop and that I had what looked to be a valid sticker. Quite the security they have... wonder if the added labor costs come close to making up the money from pirate versions. I bet not.

Anyway, I got the Soinicwall VPN client running in my virtual environment and tested. It works very well.

Woohoo... no more having XP native on my box. This is a good day... a VERY GOOD DAY!

Ok, even cooler. When I fire up my VPN connections in my Linux host system (OpenVPN and VPNC) the XP machine can use the VPN tunnels. This is amazing... just plain amazing. Oh, performance is great as well.

One more quirk found... I can't full-screen the virtual machine; it's an xorg.conf issue too. Guess I will need to dig into it at some time.
