Subject: Re: [CEUD-ICT] Panasonic TVs with voice guidance

If you connect any STB to the Panasonic TV, whether it's a Saorview, Sky or
UPC STB, the TV won't speak the STB's EPG or menus. The TV will only speak
its own EPG (but not its own menus). So if you connect a Bush talking STB to
the Panasonic TV, it will speak the Bush STBs menus and EPG, but it will be
the Bush box that is speaking, not the TV (you'll know because it'll have an
Australian accent). The TV will merely be relaying the audio through its
loudspeakers in the same way it relays the picture through its screen.

As far as I know, the Bush STB is the only talking STB that works with
Saorview, although it's not Saorview approved and there are some issues such
as it's inability to be set to Irish time. Being the only game in town
probably makes it the best option. They aren't on sale here, although you
could buy one online and pay the shipping. Bush Australia have expressed an
interest in updating the software to fix the timing and other issues for a
European market if they become convince there is a big enough market.

site lists them as "includes text to speech function". See

products such as the Goodmans SmartTalk set top box which doesn't work at
all with Saorview and the Bush Australia BHAS03 set top box which works with
Saorview but with a few glitches such as telling you the Six-One News starts
at 2am and reading the word "sport" with an outrageously beer-drenched
accent. I've got one if you want a listen. In fact, I made a video of it on
