Minister Witoelar falls unconscious after signing MoU with navy
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Minister of Environmental Affairs Rachmat
Witoelar suddenly fell unconscious just few minutes after signing a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) with the Indonesian Navy on KRI Tanjung Dalpele-972
Warship in Tanjungpriok Seaport, here on Wednesday.
Before lying unconsciously in the podium, Minister Witoelar was supposed to
give some remarks on the MoU on `protection and management of the environment`
signed by him and the Indonesian Navy`s Chief of Staff Admiral Slamet
Soebijanto.
Admiral Soebijanto was reading his brief remarks when Witoelar suddenly
collapse on the floor. The admiral immediately stopped his speech and rushed to
help the former ambassador to Russia.
Soebijanto and his staff carried Witoelar to an ambulance which later took him
to a hospital.
"I am very concerned. Who ever thought that such a situation would happen? I
hope he will recover soon," Soebijanto said.
Some information said that Witoelar, former secretary general of Golkar Party,
was taken to Harapan Kita Hospital.
Andi Mallarangeng, a presidential spokesman, told ANTARA on the phone that
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was shocked to hear the news. "He was
informed about it during his train journey to Pekalongan," he said.
President Yudhoyono, according to Mallarangeng, was very concerned over the
news, and hoped that Witoelar`s health would get better soon.
"I heard that in Harapan Kita Hospital, Mr. Witoelar has recovered his
consciousness," Andi Mallarangeng said.(*)
