I haven’t released the *software* yet, but I consider the documentation
*done*. The electronic versions are up at the usual place:
leanpub.com/nngmanual — and of course the website is already updated as
well.
Additionally, a printed version will be available shortly — I’ve spent a
lot of time optimizing the work to create a professional quality reference
manual that I hope folks will be happy to have on their shelves. (The time
I’ve spent hacking the asciidoctor layout engine to make this all work
right… lol…)
The printed version will be 424 pages in a 7.25”x9.5” format; the interior
pages are in grayscale, and are highly optimized for print. The book will
retail for $49.99. (If you’ve bought the ebook already, contact me out of
band — we can probably work a deal so that you get credit for the money you
spent on the ebook towards the purchase of the printed book.). I’m working
with IngramSpark, so world wide fulfillment should be possible.
(TheBookPatch was great, until I wanted to send a book to Europe, then it
got stupidly expensive, and so I switched.)
If you’re thinking of downloading the PDF and printing it, I’d suggest
getting the real book instead. The PDF I’ve supplied is optimized for
on-screen use on a color display, and will be both very wasteful of paper
and render less well when printed.
Details on how to purchase the printed book will be posted at
staysail.tech/books as soon I have them. (I’m waiting for Ingram to get
through their review process.)
In terms of *content*, there is very little change here. A few corrections
were made to correct stale documentation around the device API, and to fix
other fairly minor errors. An updated Preface and About This Book section
are added (those are about the only content that are only in the books, and
not on the website or in the repo). Finally, we’ve fixed a bunch of minor
typos and spelling mistakes (basic editing type stuff.)
I’m very happy with the resulting product, and my experiences here will
greatly inform the further work I do on “Distributed Systems Mastery: An
NNG Developer's Guide”.
