First off, a little update. Martin has transferred ownership of the
remaining nanomsg assets (domain name, list management, and trademark) to
me. I do not anticipate any changes (beyond my own ability to create
subdomains under the nanomsg tree for other projects like nng), however if
you’re using the nanomsg mark anywhere, particularly commercially, please
contact me — it’s important to me that the mark be used to reflect the
community software, and not in other confusing ways.)
Note however that all of the existing “language bindings” on top of
libnanomsg are “fine”, but….
I would “prefer" it if folks didn’t use the nanomsg name verbatim even for
wrappers — amending the name to make it clear that it isn’t “the” nanomsg C
library, but perhaps a wrapper — like jnanomsg does — is preferable. I’m
not going to send cousin Guido to break legs or file law suits if you have
a wrapper called just “nanomsg”, but I’d still appreciate it if you
respected my preference where protection of the name is concerned.
One thing that may occur in the future, is that “nng” may get “promoted” to
nanomsg 2.0. That remains to be seen, as nng itself is still evolving a
bit.
