Hello all,
The Digital Gap Initiative (DGI) has received confirmation that our request
to meet with Anna Bligh, newly appointed CEO of the Australian Bankers'
Association (ABA) has been accepted.
We will meet with her on Wednesday 26 April at the ABA's offices in Sydney.
DGI has made a submission to the ABA's review of its accessible banking
services standards. But the meeting with Anna Bligh will be an opportunity
for us to discuss our concerns face-to-face. Anna Bligh's good track
record in promoting social inclusion when she was Queensland's premier,
gives us hope that she will bring that focus to her new role.
Here we just would like to explain that DGI does not only advocate for
people who are blind/vision impaired, but also for people with all forms
of disabilities ; for older people and for all those who face challenges in
the digital transformation of our society.
So please tell us of the concerns you would like us to raise, whether they
are your personal concerns or those of other persons you feel need to be
included. We will discuss such issues as touch screen POS devices; touch
screen smart ATMs; mobile banking (cardless and contactless
transactions); smart cards; online banking; authentication; the closure of
bank branches; and of course the ABA accessible banking services standards,
particularly the proposed replacement of the 2002 standards with
"principles".
We would like to present a balanced report. So please tell us of both your
positive and negative experiences with these services and any other banking
services; your concerns, your ideas and so forth. We will do our best to
convey these to Anna Bligh.
Again, we meet with Anna Bligh on 26 April. DGI will also participate in a
meeting with CBA on 20 April, which will particularly focus on POS devices,
so we may direct some of your feedback to that meeting, as appropriate.So
we need your feedback as soon as possible.
