One would think so, in theory. In practice, Rogers doesn't support any
Mac platform. Not that their service won't run on a Mac -- I've had
them for about five years now, and it works as well as any other I've
had -- but although they'll send someone out to hook it up for you and
get it working (for a price), you're pretty much on your own from there
on in. Call with a problem and it's a crap shoot whether you can find
anyone who knows or cares enough about the Mac system to help you. And
although Rogers will constantly bombard you with e-mails offering you
their latest free anti-spam and anti-virus software, and urging you to
use their free Website-building software, you find when you go to take
them up on it that all those freebies work strictly on Windows.
That said:
? Every now and then you'll reach a support techie who really does know
his Mac stuff and isn't too busy to help you out;
? The actual service provision is pretty much bullet-proof, so once
you're set up there really shouldn't be that many problems for their
support staff;
? The new cable modems they supply have a nifty security feature that
lets you isolate your computer from the web at the touch of a button,
but regain access instantly at a second touch.
Also, give a thought to going wireless. With your cable modem hooked
into that neat little Airport transmitter, you won't need to care any
more how close your computer is to the television. You'll be able to
pick it up and use it anywhere you like. And if there's a lightning
storm and your surge arrestor fails, you risk losing only a $150
Airport base, rather than a $2,000 computer.
