[muglo] I need to know some Unix...:-(

I have traced the recalcitrant modem problem to a likely suspect: Unix
permissions. Does anyone have any idea how to login in and create a new
network profile which *should* if set up properly, allow the modem to
connect under OSX?
If I boot into OS9, then the modem will sucessfully connect. So it ain't
hardware. How do i fix it?
