Further details for those wanting to do the burncrooks reservoir circuit
tomorrow.
Parking at Edenmill farm shop - off A809 (Stockiemuir road) – travelling
north from Bearsden, turn left just over 1km past carbeth inn (edenmill
farm shop sign posted),
follow single track metalled road downhill for about 800m, turn left at
end of road into large car park at café.
10Km run or walk –
1) Come back out of car park, turn immediately right then in 100m
turn left (follow signposts for john muir way).
2) Follow road up past water-works buildings, through large wooded
gate (at around 1.5km from start).
3) Keep going up obvious landrover track over open moorland
4) At about 2.3km from start come to a T junction; keep left
(heading SW) through large new gates (this takes you clockwise round the
reservoir).
5) Go through forestry on landrover track and in further 400m turn
right on to path (marked by sign for john muir way); reach the reservoir in
further 50m.
6) At the reservoir turn on to surfaced path on left to take you
clockwise round the water.
7) This path undulates westwards to a high point on the south west
corner of the reservoir, then drops to cross a small bridge; keep to the
surfaced path (don’t be tempted to take shortcut over boggy ground).
8) The track then cuts back north-east all the way to the dam;
leave the track at its closest point to the dam, go across 50m of wet
ground then over the delightful grass-topped dam.
9) After crossing the dam join a land-rover track (passing fishing
hut) and keep going round the reservoir (heading east).
10) This track takes you back to the T junction at 4).
11) Retrace your steps back to the car park.
Hope this is clear! Note distances are my estimates from memory and map –
so may not be exactly accurate! There is an alternative route at start
which is very pretty (and off road) but harder to describe – maybe keep
that for another time.
I’ll bring printed copies of map and directions for the runners, aiming
for 915-920 departure.

Dear All,
I wondered about running around burncrooks reservoir this coming sat -
setting off from car park at edenmill farm (turn left off road to drymen
after carbeth inn, before whangie), there is a 10 k route which goes along
john muir way, clockwise round reservoir, over top of dam (lovely views),
then back to start.
have run it once and walked it once - enjoyed both. suitable for runners,
walkers and dogs
map attached - note we would only be running a part of this marked route!
if folk are interested then I'd send round more detailed route notes (i
see hugh and sue are on bfast duty so they should have last say).
