This isn't a problem with getting it to install. The install
requires Admin authority. I don't have a problem with that. What
I need is for the application to run correctly for a user that is
a Limited User. The user(s) in this case are Secretaries - in a
small office without a full time 'computer guru' present. So
there is always at least one person in the office who thinks
they are good enough to 'try something' ... and that results in
chaos about 10% of the time. If they didn't have Admin rights
then the amount of damage they can do is considerably reduced
and that is what I want.
I'm confused by the suggestion to use compatibility mode.
This software runs correctly as an XP application without
compatibility mode. But it fails to run if the user is a
Limited user because it is opening a file in Documents and Settings,
All Users - for update - and XP says "nope, no you don't". I know,
I know - I've asked why this file needs to be there and they
won't even talk about that!
Are you saying that if the application is switched to run in
compatibility mode that it won't fail in this way?
Yes, I have put the users into Admin authority as a bypass. But
that doesn't make it something I want to do! What I want to do is
to get the application developers off there fat *sse* and work on
a real solution. But in order to do that I need to convince them
that they can do what they want to do.
So - again - any one out there who has actually written a XP
enabled application that dealt with this kind of stuff - please
