James,
in my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium (64bits) I have, besides one instance of 
vbscript.dll in the c:\windows\system32 folder,  several instances of 
vbscript.dll referenced in the folder 
        c:\windows\winsxs
and in the folder
        c:\windows\sysWOW64
they come in two different sizes, one with 417KB and the other 598KB.

I believe the one actually in use is the one in the c:\windows\system32 folder 
(598KB), because it has today's date as the date of last modified.
