I believe this is related to the MDW file your database is linked to. Every database must be linked to an MDW file (even if it is just to specify that there is unrestricted access to all users). It sounds like someone has modifed the default workgroup file (system.mdw) or used the workgroup admin tool to point Access to a custom MDW file. You need to link your database to the the standard system.mdw that ships with Access. It is usually found in the windows system folder, or maybe C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Access. Use the workgroup admin tool to point Access back to the default system.mdw file. If you are using Access 2003 on Windows XP, you can try deleting (or renaming) system.mdw; Access should create a new and unmodified one for you. Other steps to try: 1. Log in as Admin user 2. Add the Admin User to the Admins Group 3. Give the Users Group full permissions to all objects in the database 4. Remove the Admin user?s password 5. Join to a ?clean? System.mdw (the one that shipped with Access) Hope this helps, Hutch Don Goguen <dongoguen@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: In MS Access, has anyone run into the situation where no matter what you do (including a full fresh Office install), trying to create a new database or open an MDB that is not password protected in Access results in a password prompt for no apparent reason? Sure seems to be related to the instance of Access and not an MDB file... I remember this from a few versions (and PCs) ago and found something about deleting a registry key or three at the time, but cannot seem to find mention of that any more (nor can I figure out which keys they were)...... - Don --------------------------------- Yahoo!
