Re: Can I extract Data from a Word (table) .DOC to an Hello Linda, thanks for
replying. Right now, I cannot recall why it failed initially but, as you will
have seen in my second post, I am having a bit of success now. Your suggestion
for highlighting the cells also works now (not sure what I did wrong before!)
and is easier than using the 'Import external data' method I think. My problem
has evolved into something quite different now, so I shall try to explain
further. I am now able to transfer data from the Word Table to an Excell
worksheet and I end up with a lot of cells that understandably contain text
rather than the actual data that we need for analysis. I have experimented
with a macro to delete the unwanted data and then copy the remaining data to a
second sheet. In this Sheet 2 I have used the Transpose function to change the
column to a row. What I end up with is all the relevant data from a single
quote in a single row, which is fine. My question now is: Is
there a way to 'capture' the data displayed in this row and retain it, so that
when I replace the data on the first sheet and go through the same routine, I
end up with the new data from the second quote in Row 2 on Sheet 2, in addition
to the previous data in Row 1. I realise I can paste the Word table into new
cells in Sheet 1, but thought it would be easier to simply enter it at cell A1
each time so that the macro reads the same cells each time. I do not know how
I can change the contents of the cells in Sheet 2 to values in their own own
right (as opposed to reading a value from cells in Sheet 1) and drop them down
to the next row to make way for the data from the next 'Word table' pasted in.
Not sure if I have explained myself very well, but I hope you will understand
what I am trying to do! With best wishes, Roger From: "Linda F. Johnson"

u, 28 Apr 2005 07:20:46 -0400I'm not sure what you mean when you say your
experiments failed. If youhighlight all the cells in your Word table and copy
them, then open an emptyExcel spreadsheet and click in cell A1 and paste, the
data doesn't come intoExcel? If not, what happens? What exactly is
"failing"?LindaLinda's Computer Stophttp://personal-computer-tutor.comABC Free

my question set out below, I have been working on this and am making a little
headway. I have found out how to copy a Word table to Excel by using the

<rogerbid@xxxxxxxxx>Date: Thu, 28 Apr 2005 01:34:52 -0400 (EDT)Hi
all, My boss has just dumped a problem on me, and if anyone can help my friends
here can!! Since the year dot, it seems, quotations have been created in a Word
document table, and now someone thought it would be a good idea to extract the
data from the last x months and draw meaningful comparisons etc. Before I get
someone to go through it all the long way, I thought I would ask if someone can
suggest a way to speed the process. I thought maybe I could copy and save the
table into an Excel or .csv file but my initial experiments have failed. If
anyone has a suggestion I shall be very grateful, thanks, Roger Bideleux
