Do it this way...

Type 1. <SPACE...not TAB> Question, then hit Enter and Word will put 2. in
there...NOW hit Tab and Word will indent and change the 2. to an a.

Type your first possible answer and hit Enter and Word will drop to the next
line and give you b.
Do this for all four answers, then hit Enter and Word will give you e.
When you see the e., hold down your shift key and hit the Tab key and Word
will move you back to the left and give you a 2.

Tab moves you in one level AFTER you have hit Enter
Shift+Tab moves you back one level to the left AFTER you hit Enter.

When you are done all your numbering, hit Enter and THEN click on the
numbering button on your toolbar to turn the numbering off (or simply hit
Enter twice)

Subject: [mso] formatting in Word

I am typing a multiple choice exam as follows:
1.(tab) Question
        a.(tab)possible answer
        b.(tab)possible answer
        c.(tab)possible answer
        d.(tab)possible answer

What is the best way to do this? I tried numbering but could not get it to
work the way I wanted it to.

Thanks for your help.
