Linda, Thanks, no, but not sure if I'm answering what you're asking, I think in my original post I said 'rename', but should have said opened, deleted text, then saved as a template. When we did that, it kept the desired number formats, but when he pasted document text from other document into new template, got the mess that the style names were just different enough that word didn't recognize them. I'm looking further in word and now see we can re-name the style names in the template organizer, I missed that option the first time! That may be a place to look, I'm trying to contact the user now to get a copy of the documents to see if that helps and will make sure I've done per your suggestion when I get ahold of them, thanks.
