Thanks Dian,

I am not a specialist in Word and I am not sure I will not be lost with=
 the
sub docs, TOC and indexes.
Don't you think this procedure is too complex for a user like me?

Type LIMITS into Help (F1 key) and you'll get "Limits for Word" which
explains all the max values for various items.

A file is 32 meg. However, I've seen folks TRY to use much larger files=
.

Rather than ONE large doc...ESPECIALLY with lots of images/graphics...y=
ou'd
be MUCH better off using separate sub docs and then you can use the RD
field
code to merge the docs together for a TOC/Index. And you can use the
PAGEREF
with a hidden field to get cross references to display across docs and =
also
for pages numbers to automatically roll across separate docs.

Here's a TechTrax article with SOME details about using references,
wrapping
them with the INCLUDETEXT field to pull that info into other docs. It's=

kinda tricky...so if you decide to go that way...feel free to email me
directly at dian@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and I'll pass along that code.

And also read this article I wrote:

Georges,

The University of Liverpool has produced a guide to large Word 2000
documents which you may find useful:

http://www.liv.ac.uk/CSD/helpdesk/faqs/word/large_docs.html

It is my experience that Master Documents are best avoided. Instead, I'=
d
use
a separate document for each chapter, with a separate 'Contents'
document which contains hyperlinks to each individual chapter.

If you are worried about page numbering, you can use field code switche=
s to
start numbering from any point in each individual document so that - fo=
r
instance - chapter 6 page numbering starts at 68.

Hope this helps (whilst not actually answering the question, because I
don't
know the answer!).

I would like to know the maximum size of a Word 2000 document. I intend=
 to
create a document of about 500 Mb (with many pictures). Is it possible =
and
will I be able to print it?

Thank you in advance for your answer.
