Since I believe Linda is busy getting ready for a holiday, I'll jump in
here.

To help verify that it's the Acrobat template, start Word by clicking
Start/Run and typing winword.exe /a and hit enter. That should start
Word and will stop all the "addins" from being included...including the
Acrobat stuff. If things work OK...then it means that there is a
template being added that is causing the conflict. It's a common problem
with that template!

So you need to find it. It'll most likely be located in one of your
STARTUP directories for Office. Look for /office/startup and
particularly word/startup and see if they hold what appears to be the
adobe DOT file template. If you need to keep it there, you can rename it
to .old for now and then it won't be added. When you need to use
it...close Word, rename it to .dot and reopen Word. But you should check
the acrobat site. I think they've added an updated file that helps fix
the problem...cos' so many have complained about it. Here's a link that
should help:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/update.html

Good luck!

Hi Linda. I think you just hit the nail on the head.

Youwrote:
Also...you aren't by any chance running Adobe Acrobat
or something like that?

As a matter of fact, I use Acrobat quite a bit. After
reading your note, I went into the Word Tool menu and
tried un-checking the PDFMaker addin. As soon as I
clicked OK, Word shut down immediately and gave me the
same error screen I mentioned earlier.

Now that the problem has been narrowed down, is there
some way to remedy this situation without removing
Acrobat entirely from my system? I do use the program
quite a bit and would hate to have to give it up.

Thanks again for the advice so far. I believe I can
see the light at the end of the tunnel now (and, this
time, I don't think it's the headlamp of the 4:15).
;-)

-Robin
