HenryH, have you considered 3rd party document management/protection
systems that will provide audit trails, document archiving, etc.
Potentially a work process solution would be valuable. If none of these
urls provide ideas, assistance, another idea (though I could not help with
the actual 'how to') is to automate a process that would 'copy' the file to
a directory set up to hold copies of these documents, the directory could
have protections on it and only certain able to access it.

Also, Dian Chapman's site has a word backup utility, (
http://www.mousetrax.com/Downloads.html) that may be useful. We have
similar situation and are handling it via strict work process and document
management system that stores the archives. Ours is more of a web
repository, which is where our work process comes in. Just a few ideas,
hope that helps, Cathy

Yes. The users are only creating Microsoft Word documents. We are
using Word 2000 and Word 97 (I think). It is a legal practice and new
documents are created (usually from templates -precedents-).

I would ideally like to allow "supervisor(s)" to have full control of
the files. But the main thing is to stop the files from being
deleted, but allowing creation.

I would have thought that this was a straight forward thing and had
been addressed many times by others but I have not been able to
discover how it can/should be done.
