Glenda, This does make much more sense now. You could use Anthony' Random function to tell Access which memo field to use. Simply set it as your criteria in a query for that data and instead of having to shuffle the numbers, it will randomly select a memo field for you. I need to randomly sort this column of numbers or, better still, find a way to randomize the memo field that displays on the report. The report is an 8.5 x 11 page. The top of the page is a bunch of boring numbers and lists related to person records. We want to use the bottom half of the page for "lite" advertising. That is, paragraphs in 3 columns extolling the virtues of our school. Each person in our database may get 3 or 4 (or more) of these reports during the course of their relationship with us. We want the 3 text columns to change every time a report is generated so our students don't see the same 3 "commercials" each time. =20 The way I'm doing it Ray is just the way I could figure out how-to on my own. If there's another way, I'm open for suggestion and willing to change. /g -----Original Message----- From: Ray Blake [mailto:ray@xxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Monday, August 04, 2003 12:30 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Random in Access or Excel Glenda, A little more info please. - How many lines in your 2-column table? - Are duplicated numbers allowed or must every number be unique? The number is the unique value for text in a memo field. The memo field is in a report that's printed for distribution. I'd like to randomly sort the numbers from time to time so the text in a report changes from time to time. The idea is to have a random selection of text every time the report is printed. Currently, I regenerate my list of numbers using random.org and re-do my table with the new list which gets the job done, but isn't very elegant and probably not using Access properly. Any advice appreciated. =20 Still looking for a clue in (waaaay tooo) sunny Florida. /g ************************************************************* You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To Unsubscribe from this group, send an email to=20 mso-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject line.
