Hi Cathy, This is a well known and common problem. Links between PowerPoint files and other files break very easily. The best way to insert multimedia into a presentation is to do the following: 1) Make a copy of the media file (your movie) 2) Place that copy in the same folder as your presentation 3) Open your presentation 4) If you already created a link to the movie, delete it from the presentation 5) Re-insert the movie, only this time use the copy that is in the same folder as your presentation There are products out there that will help you fix broken links. One of the best is FixLinks Pro, from Steve Rindsberg of PPT FAQ fame. You can find a link to it, as well as other information on breaking/broken links on this PPT FAQ page: Links break when I move presentation (and at other times) http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm Hope this information helps! But: if we live without making a difference, it makes no difference that we lived -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Cathy.Evans@xxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2004 1:19 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] PowerPoint 2002: Inserted Movie File Location I am inserting some .wmv movies into a powerpoint presentation. They are located on my hard drive, and if I open the presentation on another machine, it searches for the path of the movies on my hard drive. I can move them to the project server to prevent this for some users, but for those in the field, this will not help. Used the insert movies and sound menu and set it to automatically play. When I tried inserting them as object instead, the movie opened in a separate media player, which is not desirable. Is there any way I can embed the movies in the presentation so it does not need to search for a path and any user can see them? If this is not possible, I will just have to settle for pasting a few of the pictures on the page instead of movie, as the most important thing is enabling remote users to view the document without any connections to any home server. I'm not a regular PowerPoint user and would appreciate any help, thank you, Cathy ************************************************************* You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To Unsubscribe from this group, send an email to mso-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject line.
