Neil, I use Paint Shop Pro 7 & I think that program should have been able to handle the color depth. Perhaps it is my inexperience with the program? Luckily this photo will probably never be more than one that gets viewed on someone's computer. But, I am glad for the tip to help me in future trials. Thanks, Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neil Atwood" <natwood@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, August 22, 2002 4:21 PM Subject: [mso] Re: Picture in Word The problem with that method is that you only get the image at screen quality. If the original was a file optimised for printing, that quality will be lost. Copy/Paste is still the best method (although not ideal), but make sure you're pasting into an app that can handle the colour depth of the original file. When you are in MS Word, hold down ALT and press Prt Sc (Print Screen). Open MSPaint and got Edit and then Paste. The whole document should appear. You can then use the Cut tool to cut around the picture and paste it into a new page in Paint. But I would say Dave's is easier to understand Shane -----Original Message----- From: Jan Robey [mailto:hrstreak@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 22 August 2002 14:40 To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Picture in Word Thank you both, Shane & Dave, Since I only have one picture & Shane's method was copy/paste that's the one I tried. But something strange & ugly happened. I have Office 2000 premium. My paste showed the picture like it was struck by radiation...this person was all kinds of glowing reds, oranges, blues & etc. Very strange. Thought maybe it was something I did in the process, & redid it...the results were the same. Help? The most reliable, but definitely not the quickest way I've found to export graphics without loosing any resolution is to save the document as a HTML file (file> save as webpage). Once the file is saved it will create a directory alongside the .html file - this directory will contain the images (usually as a thumbnail as well as the full-size picture). Grab the picture you want out of there and delete the .html file and directory. However the file will be compressed, but not necessarily an JPEG Alternative to this you could try going via the clipboard, which as I write this email, Shane's just posted you the method - as you'll see this is potentially a HELL of a lot quicker... but if you have lots of pictures..... HTH, Dave. -----Original Message----- From: Jan Robey [mailto:hrstreak@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 22 August 2002 12:10 To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Picture in Word Someone sent me as an attachment a picture of them a Word document. I word like to get it out of word & save it as a .jpg. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do that. I hoped I could go to Save AS & simply save it as a .jpg but of course that would not work. I tried to right click on it hoping for 'save picture as' but that wouldn't work. I looked through the Word tools but could not find anything that would help. Any suggestions?
