Hi Linda,
I think I know the setting you are talking about, and I thought I
already checked on that one, but can you confirm it for me? Is it in
this location: Tools-Options-Other-Advanced (under Preview pane)? If
so, she has that one set up correctly -- the box labeled "mark messages
as read in preview window" is unchecked. It's as if there is a glitch
in this client's Outlook -- I ran a Detect and Repair but no dice.

Is there anywhere else it could be?

Thanks,
Elise

Is she using the preview pane? If so, there's an option to mark
previewed
messages as read. When she goes into any folder that has the preview
pane
turned on, the first message in that folder would be previewed...so she
needs to turn that option off.=20

Subject: [mso] Outlook 2002 problem - & apologies for my earlier
nonsense
message

Hi folks,
I just realized that my earlier message with subject line "Really weird
problem in Outlook 2002" came through as complete gobbledygook, hence
the fact that I got no responses. I have no idea why it did that and
apologize for clogging all of your mailboxes with that garbage.

Here is my problem: I have a client running Outlook 2002 on Windows XP.
Her Outlook is on an Exchange server. Recently her emails have begun
essentially marking themselves as read after about 1.5 minutes. So a
new message will come into her inbox, and it is showing up bold as new
messages do, but if you sit and watch the message without doing anything
(i.e. don't click on it, or open it, or anything), it suddenly becomes a
read message - i.e. isn't bold anymore. At no point has the message
been clicked on or selected in any way. It's totally weird.

I've gone through the View settings and selected 8 point Tahoma bold as
the font for unread messages, but it still happens. Has anyone else
seen this behavior before?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Elise
