Hi Dian,

Thanks for the quick response. I went to your article on Styles & I have a
small question. You begin by saying be certain to be in PageLayout...my
only choices are: Normal, Web Layout, Print Layout, & Outline. I have mine
set to 'Print Layout' is that the same as PageLayout?

This has to do with the tabs that are set and the formatting for the
numbers. If they have the ruler turned on at the top of the screen,
you'll notice that when you're in the single digits, there is enough
room for the text to align with the default tabs. But move the cursor to
the double digit numbers and you'll see that the text can't fit to the
first tab, so it's going to the second one.

What needs to be done is to either set a style, which is the best way,
and then apply the style to each number paragraph. But if they don't
understand styles, it might be best for them to work around it by
selecting all of the numbered text and adjusting the tabs on the ruler,
enmasse. They can just slide the close tab over one/two clicks so that
all the text properly aligns.

Modifications can also be made in the numbering dialog...just be sure
they have the text all selected first, or apply the adjusted style to
each. Here's an article on styles for newbies, if you think it might
help: http://www.mousetrax.com/styles.html

Good luck!

Subject: [mso] Numbering

Two of my seniors are having a problem with making a list in Word.
Using the numbering tool everything works fine until they get to #10.
>From there on through the rest of the numbers there is a automatic 5 or
6 space between the text & the number.

It may look like the following:
8. Meet with Helen
9. Must go to Dr. Brown at 8:30
10. Pick up Rose at airport
11. Order tickets

No matter what they do they cannot get rid of the space between the
number & text.

Glad you are back Linda, bet you had a great time.

Please help.
Jan
