Yup...there's surely a TON of stuff you can section off to saved files and
another ton you can toss on a CD for safe keeping...just in case. I only
keep the last year or so worth of stuff on my system. The rest...all the way
back to 1995!!...is all saved to CDs!

Want some tips for installing Win95? I got 'em!<lol>

You laugh...but I'm ticked that I tossed the copy of Windows 2.1 that I had.
Now I keep all released/beta versions...just for fun!<wink> Saved all those
"Announcing Win95" emails, too!<g>

Thanks, Dian. Gives me an idea of where I'm at, at approx 400 mb of email.
I think I'll be checking out your method of splitting/saving emails.

The maximum usable size is listed as 2GB but it's actually about 1.83 GB.
Anything larger than that is unstable and will likely cause data loss. Once
a PST reaches that size you'll need to run the PST crop tool from Microsoft.

Read this TechTrax article for info about how to better manage your email
files to allow you to easily split them up into smaller subcatagory files
that are still easily accessible. That's how I do it and it's much easier.
You DON'T need 2 gig's worth of mail to open/close every day!!! Divide out
your stuff into groups. I have web sites, tech mail, consulting, etc. Then I
keep one smaller set of folders for most recent mail...and then copy that
stuff when it gets older...over to the other files so keep stored for
reference/backup on my HD or, later, CDs.

I LITERALLY have all my saved email...back to 1996! (I started on the web in
95...but I was too much of a newbie to understand how to save all that
stuff. Good thing, too...it's pretty embarrassing, I'm sure!<hee, hee>

But I can pull up email from 1996 in a couple seconds from my files! But my
current email is about 200 meg. Granted, I've been busy and haven't chopped
up the junk in there now or it would be a lot smaller. Have a lot of filing
to do!<wink>

Hi Dian,
I'm not the one asking the question but you do bring up questions I've
always wondered. How big is considered huge and what is Outlook's limits?
