Thanks, I will give it a try.

I believe you can Peggy but having Outlook/Journal track apps such as Word
or Excel just slows everything down so much, for me, it wasn't worth the
effort.

I'm big on naming convention. If I had a project for Admissions Focus Group
for example, I'd name all files I generated with the prefix afg so that they
would be grouped in alpha order in Explorer. I also would save them in
appropriate folders and sub-folders.

In my journal, I might include hyperlinks to any referenced documents
instead of tracking specific documents. If you want to time yourself for
anything, turn on the journal timer as you work on the doc then add the
hyperlink then turn off the timer as needed.

hope this helps.

Can you use this method to include the Office documents you work on related
to the project?

I use the journal extensively to track projects. My method is to add a
category for each project. I put the category code into all email, notes,
etc. related to the project.

Does anyone use this feature in Outlook? It seems it would help me track how
much time I spend in various projects. Would I give each project a "fake"
contact name to assign the various things to, using the Journal? I didn't
find Outlook Help to be that helpful in helping me conceptualize how to set
this up.
