In which case it's probably a Windows issue - association of files.

If you open Explorer, choose Tools > Folder Options > File types  locate Word 
files and see what they are associated with.
If that's all good, then it sounds like a corrupt icon cache - but that takes 
us out of the realm of this list...

When I open the Document it is in word, but yes it shows the Notepad =
icon on
attachments been sent out.

Justin are you saying that whenever you try and attach a Word document =
to an
outgoing email, it shows as having the Notepad icon next to it?

If so, what happens if you open that attachment (before sending it)? =
Does it
open in Word or Notepad?
If Notepad, does it appear as plain text, or does it have all sorts of
formatting in it?

This may be a Windows issue rather than Office.

Every one, word does not seem to work in Outlook xp, I have it as mr =
editor,
but when I go look for a doc that I want to attach it is not in the word
format but a text format I guess you call it has the notebook next to =
it.
