[mso] Excel 97 - .xls:1 and .xls:2 - how did this happen?

Hi everyone

I have just noticed that an Excel 97 spreadsheet I
have been working on seems to have two versions:
*.xls:1 and *.xls:2. Both versions open each time I
open the file.

Can anyone tell me what I did to cause this? Is there
some way I can get rid of *xls:1 without copying and
pasting to a new file?

I couldn't find anything relevant in Help.

Thanks.
Alison
