Greg created a cool utility, File Cataloger, that'll hyperlink all those files into a Word doc. It'll run quickly. You can add the CD number/date to the table as you do each...then just put the tables together and sort. You can even add notes. Then just open the file to find what you need. Granted, that much info is a lot for a Word table...but you can forget the table structure and use the line sort...like Greg does when he uses it to collect/sort many thousands of server logs. Or you might find his new Directory Catalog more convenient? It replicates Windows directory tree structure in an expanded format so you can see everything you have without having to click to expand anything. I.e., for example: Smyth.Ged 4/4/99 12:38 R-H- F:\SmythFamily Bankin.Bir 8/22/98 4:58 RSH-- F:\System\Births And so on? Obviously, it is for recording the filenames of my genealogy data. I was surprised to to realize I have amassed over 400 CD-Rs (or DVD-Rs) of genealogy data. If I could somehow get a text/Ascii file of all of the filenames, I could search to see which CD/DVD a file may be on. Obviously, each CD/DVD will have to have its own unique name to do this. I have named them A, B, C, D, ...Z, AA, BB, and so on. At the time I thought it was efficient. The DIR command does not reveal the attributes, and the ATTRIB command does not show creation/edited dates. Can I easily blend the two commands to get the best of both worlds? Thank you.
