Thanks James. They actually got their 'out' on a form previous to the detail one where they enter the full detail once the number is assigned. At that point they can submit or cancel, but once they submit, it's too late because the number and other pertinent info has already been written to appropriate tables. A couple of times they have changed their mind after submitting the number, but we decided they should just void that order instead of trying to set the counter back one, cause it would require deleting the new row in one table and setting the counter back in the master ID table. Their mind change usually comes after they're out of the system and decide they don't need that item after all! Maybe there's a way to automate the void/cancel, but I'm definitely not there yet . . . :-) Thanks, Cathy James LaBorde <jlaborde@xxxxxxxxx To: "'mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'" <mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent by: cc: mso-bounce@freelist s.org Subject: [mso] Re: Access 2002: Checking For Nulls On Form 06/10/2004 05:58 PM Close :VSM ail mx1 Please respond to mso ..... Cathy, Don't forget to give your users an out. They may decide they don't want to enter a new form after all and need to exit, you could do this on your BeforeUpdate as well. This will allow the user the option to select Cancel on the message box to exit the form cleanly or OK to return to the form and set the focus on the appropriate field.
