This is possible in Access. You have it pretty much set for the left side
but you will probably need to change your number to 5.
As for the second half of your equation:
Zip4: IIF(len([zip])=10, Right([zip],4),"0000")
I am assuming you have your field set to text. If you are not entering the
hyphen in these then you will need to change your equation to =9.
If you need any more help just holler.

P.S. Linda, how can you bash Access, it can do anything Excel can as long as
you know how to make it. And it doesn't have that extremely annoying

now (LOL)....thank GOD they don't ask me to teach advanced Access....I'm

Access has a right function which I can use and it works on a zip of
32724-1234 but for a zip of just 32721, the second column becomes 2721
instead of the 0000 that I need. I can't figure out how to tell it to do
the right function only if the zip code is longer than 5 characters.
