Chris, this is great news!
The last time we talked, rotator cuff surgery was still on the table so to speak.

Subject: [msb-alumni] Overdue Medical Update

I apologize for not writing sooner, but since returning home from
Michigan on 06/29, it has been one crazy summer! The last time I
checked in it was Sat., 06/20, in reference to the following:

Atelectasis (at-uh-LEK-tuh-sis) — a complete or partial collapse of a
lung or lobe of a lung — develops when the tiny air sacs (alveoli)
within the lung become deflated. It's a breathing (respiratory)
complication after surgery.

Atelectasis is also a possible complication of other respiratory
problems, including cystic fibrosis, inhaled foreign objects, lung
tumors, fluid in the lung, respiratory weakness and chest injuries.

The amount of lung tissue involved in atelectasis is variable,
depending on the cause. Atelectasis can make breathing difficult and
lower oxygen particularly if lung disease is already present. Treatment
depends on the cause and severity of the collapse.

I'm happy to report that over time I recovered nicely, and after seeing
a pulmonologist at the end of July, he gave me an all clear. My lungs
are very healthy. Dr. Chuidian suspected that I had a rare form of
bronchitis, and was on the verge of having pneumonia. After being
placed on the antibiotic Levaquin, while still in Michigan, used for
lung infections, it wiped out all the bad stuff. I didn't even have a
chronic cough. Thank goodness! Unfortunately I've come down with
Daryl's chest cold, thus I pray we're not headed for round 2.

In July it was thought I might need rotator cuff surgery, but it's
nothing more than irritation and arthritis. Same for the knees.

I'm pleased to report that the weight loss is going great. Since May
I've lost 33 pounds. I really want to return to The Seeing Eye for
another dog. Daryl and I miss our walking 4 to 5 miles per day.

I pray this finds everyone well, ready to embrace fall, the arrival of
cooler temperatures. Daryl sends his regards.
