Subject: Summer Reading Event is Just around the corner
Good morning All,
I am forwarding this message on behalf of our youth and outreach librarian
Stephanie Wambaugh. I realize that some of you might not be able to make this
event do to travel or other issues. For those of you that live in the mid
Michigan area I think you will find the event interesting.
Scott
The first ever BTBL Summer Reading Event is just around the corner! Please
spread the word to your consumers, family, and friends. This event is for all
ages. RSVP is requested. See below for the event details.
Theme: Sports, Wellness, Fitness
Date: Thursday, August 18th
Time: 1-3pm
Location: Braille and Talking Book Library Lobby
Michigan Library and Historical Center
702 W. Kalamazoo St.
Lansing, MI 48915
Join us promptly at 1pm for a Sports Talk by BTBL patron and long-time athlete
and coach, Larry Powell. As an athlete and coach with a visual impairment, Mr.
Powell will offer insight to his life-long commitment to sports and fitness.
Mr. Powell has a long history participating in sports, including wrestling,
track, and marching and concert bands throughout his high school and college
careers. During his notable career, Mr. Powell was a two-time State Placer
wrestler in high school, and earned a spot on the 1963 Class B State
Championship team which was later inducted into the Lansing Sports Hall of
Fame.
He went on to be a full-time wrestling starter as a Junior at Central Michigan
University. After his college career, Mr. Powell turned to coaching and
tutoring
youth of various ages in wrestling-some of which had great success as
All-Americans, Senior World Champs, and even an Olympian!
After the Sports Talk, attendees will have the opportunity to visit various
sports and wellness themed stations to speak with representatives and explore
adaptive equipment used for those programs. Stations will include
representatives from Ski for Light on cross-country skiing and Playmakers on
Good Form running/walking, as well as tandem bicycling, crossbow shooting, and
more!
Don't miss out on this exciting event! Attend to learn more about sports,
wellness, and fitness for all ages and abilities!
