Many years ago I created a page for my favorite author, Mark Twain. Most of
the links no longer worked so I redid the page. There are lots of great
quotes and links. Just follow the link from: www.frpat.com

St. Polycarp (d. 156)
Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna (modern Izmir, Turkey), disciple of St. John the
Apostle and friend of St. Ignatius of Antioch was a revered Christian leader
during the first half of the second century. St. Ignatius, on his way to
Rome to be martyred, visited Polycarp at Smyrna, and later at Troas wrote
him a personal letter. The Asia Minor Churches recognized Polycarp's
leadership by choosing him as a representative to discuss with Pope Anicetus
the date of the Easter celebration in Rome-a major controversy in the early
Church.

So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me
void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. ~Isaiah
55:10-11

"This is how you are to pray: "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven." ~Matthew 6:7-15

We are called to trust in God. When we pray we can praise God, ask for all
that we need to live according to our calling, and ask and grant
forgiveness. Forgiveness may be the most difficult part. We pray to be
forgiven, only to the extent that we are willing to forgive those who have
harmed us.

I pray that I may praise and trust in God. I pray that I may follow God's
call by forgiving, asking forgiveness, and avoiding the near occasion of
sin.

We pray for the people of Haiti. We pray for great respect for life from
natural conception to natural death. We pray for an end of terrorism and
war, for the safety of our troops and their families at home.

May God Bless you and those you love, and keep you safe!

Father Pat

"Be still and know that I am God." ~Psalm 46:10

Newly written each day by Father Pat Umberger. Morning Prayer may not be
published by others, but is a good resource for preachers and those who attend
Daily Mass, and those who would like to keep up with the Lectionary Readings
and are not always able to attend Daily Mass.
