From Father Pat Umberger .=: S A I N T O F T H E D A Y :=. Feast of All Saints The earliest observance was a commemoration of "all the martyrs" in the fourth-century. After waves of invaders plundered the catacombs, Pope Boniface IV gathered 28 wagonloads of bones and reenterred them beneath the Pantheon, a Roman temple dedicated to the Gods. This was a Spring feast. Nobody seems to know why the Western Church came to celebrate the feast in November, but it seemed to happen in the 9th Century. We cane easily relegate Saints to windows, statues and niches ... as those who are removed from ourselves but very holy. But God calls all of us to be saints. As we strive to follow God's call and do His will, we grow more and more saintly through God's grace! .=: P R A Y E R F O R T H E D A Y :=. I pray that I may hear God's call to me, that I should strive to live a saintly live. I pray that my life may be worthy to be imitated by those around me. .=: W E P R A Y :=. We pray for a deep and profound respect for life, and for the courage and willingness to stand up for life.
