Columbus State Convention from now until late Sunday night.

P R A Y F O R U S
Father Pat is Knights of Columbus Chaplain for the Diocese of La Crosse. He
will be with his Brother Knights and Sir Knights from Friday to Sunday.
Keep us in your prayers, that we may have the strength and courage to
support the Church and Seminarians and to stand up for life from natural
conception to natural death!

St. Pedro de San José Betancur (1626-1667)
Central America can claim its first saint with the July 30 canonization of
Pedro de Betancur by Pope John Paul II in Guatemala City. Known as the "St.
Francis of the Americas," Pedro de Betancur is the first saint to have
worked and died in Guatemala. Calling the new saint an ?outstanding example?
of Christian mercy, the Holy Father noted that St. Pedro practiced mercy
?heroically with the lowliest and the most deprived.? Speaking to the
estimated 500,000 Guatemalans in attendance, the Holy Father spoke of the
social ills that plague the country today and of the need for change. For

Now I know, brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, just as your leaders
did; but God has thus brought to fulfillment
what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that
his Christ would suffer. Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins
may be wiped away. ~Acts 3:13-15, 17-19

Those who say, "I know him," but do not keep his commandments are liars, and
the truth is not in them. But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is
truly perfected in him. ~1 John 2:1-5a

And he said to them, "Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and
rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness
of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from
Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things." ~Luke 24:35-48

God calls us to keep His word, and preach in His name. We are not only
witnesses, but those God calls to share the message of the Resurrection of
His Son ... and the life, healing, forgiveness and peace we receive through
His resurrection.

I pray that I may keep God's word. I pray that I may share freely the
message of the Resurrection of Jesus.

We pray for unity in our country and that we may build a Culture of Life. We
pray for the safety of our troops, their safe return and their families at
home. We pray for a deep and profound respect for life, and for the courage
and willingness to stand up for life. We pray for one another, for those who
have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most. Have a
good day!

May God Bless you and those you love, and keep you safe!

Father Pat

"Be still and know that I am God." ~Psalm 46:10

Newly written each day by Father Pat Umberger. Morning Prayer may not be
published by others, but is a good resource for preachers and those who attend
Daily Mass, and those who would like to keep up with the Lectionary Readings
and are not always able to attend Daily Mass.
