Hi Russ,
Actually, it does not matter about the column order when importing from a CSV
file into a Money Talks register provided the first row in the import file
contains appropriately named values as designated in the Money Talks user
guide. My problem was when I saved the Excel data as a CSV file, I selected the
first CSV save as option which was something like CSV UTF8 (comma delimited).
When I chose the second CSV option in the save as drop-down box which did not
contain the UTF8 designation, the resulting file imported just fine.
When I opened the CSV file giving me the error in Notepad so that I could copy
the row 1 column heading names, I’m pretty sure that file was tab delimited
rather than comma delimited. I don’t understand how that happened because I’m
sure I selected the CSV UTF8 option. Anyway, I was successful importing the
properly saved CSV file into Money Talks.

Hi Allen
The order of the column header should be:
Amount,Pay Name,Date,Item,Memo,Category,Subcategory,Status
Hope this helps,

Hi List,
I’ve been busily assigning categories in an Excel file to several months of
credit card transactions which I downloaded from my credit card company. After
getting all the categories tagged and making sure I properly labeled the column
headings with appropriate Money Talks field names, I used Excel to create a
copy of the transactions in a new Excel workbook which I saved as a CSV file.
Here are the column headings in row 1 of that CSV file:
Pay Name, Date, Amount, Item, Memo, Category, Subcategory, Status
However, when I attempt to import these transactions into my Money Talks credit
card account by selecting File, Import, Register transactions from a CSV file,
followed by identifying the correct file from the File Explorer dialog, I
receive the error The specified CSV file is invalid or not supported.
Can someone please give me some guidance on why my CSV file might be invalid?
Are there any naming restrictions on the filename? I believe I’m using valid
Money Talks field names as my row 1 column headings. I thought I had done
everything correctly but I’m unable to figure out what’s needed so I can import
the transactions I painstakingly categorized into my Money Talks account.
Thanks in advance for your help.
