September will mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of Mid-South Lions.
September will also mark the date of our first quarterly meeting of 2017-2018.
We will also hold our annual golf tournament in September. The celebration of
75 years of service will take place in September at the Hilton Memphis. We
will also be inducting another great Lion into the L. B. Baker Hall of Honor in
September.
What's great about all these things is they will be happening ON THE SAME
WEEKEND!
HERE IS THE WEEKEND SCHEDULE:
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
If you are planning to work at the golf tournament, there are several hotels in
the Cherokee Valley area if you need accommodations for Thursday evening.
Comfort Inn, Olive Branch 662-895-0456; Comfort Suites Olive Branch

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
Our festivities will begin with our annual golf tournament. The tournament will
once again be hosted by our friends at the Cherokee Valley golf club in Olive
Branch, MS. We will need lots of help that day with spotters, goody-bag
stuffers, registration workers, drink cart drivers, raffle ticket sales people
and, oh yeah, GOLFERS! If you can help, please plan to be at the golf course
about 10 am on that morning. It's pretty much an all day sucker, so plan to
stay until the end, about 6 pm. Please let Betty know if you are planning to

While there are several hotels in Memphis who have supported Mid-South
throughout the years (Comfort Inn Downtown; Holiday Inn Express Medical Center
in particular), the HQ hotel for this weekend is the Hilton Memphis. Room rates
for the weekend are $119 plus tax per night. To make reservations, please call

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
The regular first quarterly meeting of the Mid-South Lions committees and board
will begin early on Saturday morning and run throughout the day. We'll begin
our new year with committee meetings, lunch will be on your own, then we'll
meet as a board after lunch to celebrate what we accomplished during 2016-2017,
then make plans for another successful year of service as we move forward. A
full agenda is forthcoming.
SATURDAY EVENING
Well this is an event every Mid-South Lions through the years has been working
toward: the celebration of 75 years of service to those in need from all over
the four-state area and beyond. Immediate Past Lions International President
Bob and Lion Dianne Corlew will be our honored guests to help us recall the
great service provided since 1942 when our organization was just a twinkle in
the eyes of our founders from the Memphis Downtown Lions Club. We are asking
current members of the club to come help us celebrate this moment in our
history.
In addition, one of the men who has helped Mid-South for many years, in
particular in the transition from Methodist Hospital to the Hamilton Eye
Institute, Dr. Chris Fleming will be inducted into the L. B. Baker Hall of
Honor.
This is a historic weekend that will generate memories for those who come after
us, and we certainly are encouraging EVERY LION to make plans to attend. This
is NOT a fund raising event, but a celebration of over 35,000 people being
served. And while we must cover the cost of the event, we're making it
affordable to everyone. The dinner and celebration is $40 per person, and a
table of 8 guests plus a full page ad in our program is only $400.

your dinner reservations no later than Monday, September 11 P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!
I urge EVERY CLUB IN THE FOUR STATE AREA to support Mid-South with and ad, and
pray that Lions from all over our four-state area will make this a priority and
attend this memorable celebration.
Please pass the word on to everyone on your email list, and personally ask all
the clubs in your area to participate.

AND, if you or someone in your club is interested in serving as a Mid-South
committee member, we have openings for the following:
Case Services - Deals with patient issues, applications and processes
Finance - Chaired by the treasurer and reviews monthly/quarterly financial
statements
Governance - Meets twice per year to consider possible changes to our bylaws
Meetings - Coordinates planning and implementation of all Mid-South Lions
meetings
Everyone is on the Fundraising and Auction Committee- Works to help make
Mid-South more financially viable through giving and special events

request on to your state's vice president.
