This weekend I got to work with Andrew - MM's new general manager. We had a
couple of conversations. He asked that I pass on some of the basic
He wants us to know he recognizes and appreciates the collective knowledge
MMSP bring to hill operations.
He is relying on us to be his "eyes and ears" on the mountain. Feel free
to bring any concerning issues up to him or Kristian. Such as
- Safety issues
- Lift concerns including operator issues
- Grooming concerns
A significant issue for Andrew is ensuring closed runs are closed.
- To close a run the run must have a ribbon with "closed" across any
primary (groomed) access points as well as a "trail closed" sign posted.
- Enforcement: we are asked to assist in reducing the use of closed runs
by stopping guest on closed runs and clipping a corner of their daily or
season pass, or if you are uncomfortable with that, requesting management
to handle the issue.
- Our current policy of open woods or glade use is unchanged, but
accessing a closed run from a woods trail is not an accepted excuse for
being on a properly closed trail.
The east side "back country" is open (except for sudden drop) This are
should be closed with the east side / Midway ribbon and a closed trail sign
at sunset closed (unchanged from past practice). The area should then be
swept as in the past.
Andrew is looking forward to meeting all of use. Stop in to meet him or
have him come over to the patrol room to meet your shift.
