January is done and gone, and we have the 2018/2019 Ski, Snowboard, and
Toboggan Refresher to accomplish now. The Course Number will be shared
tomorrow once the National Office creates the class record.
To get credit please register for our Refresher as soon as you receive the next
e mail with the course number. We will be closing the course by the First of
March. That gives us all the month of February to get it done. Participating
in the Refresher, BUT NOT REGISTERING FOR THE EVENT ONLINE, WILL NOT GET YOU
CREDIT. YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE.
As we are discovering from the OEC refresher processes, Instructors please
register for the Toboggan Refresher even if you attended the NC Region S and T
event, or the Division S and T event.
Your Instructors for this season who can provide you a refresher this season
include: Tom Anderson, Rob Bell, John Keating, Greg Kerwin, Mike Lynch, Robert
Meyers, and Lowell Miller. Instructors please keep a personal record of the
patrollers you have refreshed, and the date. Please share with me as you
accomplish the Refresher and I will match them to the course completion
Refresher content should include the standard Toboggan Exercises including
snowplow, side slip, falling leaf, Direction Changes (transitions), and Hockey
Stop. Skiing and Riding skills including short, medium and long radius turns.
Toboggan maneuvers unloaded, loaded in the handles, loaded tail rope, and
For Alpine Patrollers that would like to improve their skills, please feel free
to connect with the Candidate Class and practice alongside our Patroller
As we all know, the "Toboggan Refresher" is an obligation for all of us, just
like the OEC Refresher and CPR Refresher.
Knowing that all of our shifts are at all time low sizes, it would be our wish
that you not Refresh on your scheduled shift if at all possible. That being
said if guest skier and rider volumes are crazy low on your shift time and you
know a full Refresher can be accomplished feel free to make it work as we all
know what needs to be done.
John Keating of course is there every weekday and he would be pleased to
provide refreshers. To be fair to John, May we suggest that John post on the
display board dates and times so he can plan for content and time to accomplish
Thanks to all for your participation.
