Expanding on that, because why not, and shit is weird...
I was talking to some folks and one of them pointed out that this was going to
be the first time I've lived really "on my own" since...1991.
And as I'm looking at places, I'm looking in the areas I normally would when I
realized...why? I don't have to care about school systems in the usual terms. I
don't have to care about is it safe for a kid to go outside and play, do they
have a playground, do they have a...
I don't even need a big place, given that my furniture right now consists of a
desk, a bed, one medium-sized dresser, one small dresser and a couple DVD
towers. (The TV et al are actually my son's he bought them, got tired of
waiting for me to decide to upgrade from the 32")
So instead of looking out in the 'burbs, I found a place in a decent area,
about three-four blocks from KCLife, which is amusing to me. Also right near
the uptown and wesport, so there is shit to do like right there. Once the 'rona
is better managed at least. There's parks nearby and shit, and actual real mass
transit. And the best part is, if in a year, I don't like it? I CAN MOVE. I can
just fuckin' move without having to worry about who I'm uprooting.
Don't get me wrong, living on my own again after like 3 decades is kind of
scary because it's so unfamiliar, but for the first time in a long time, I get
to have "my" place, and that's kind of neat.
