My name is Kandy Bernskoetter, and I live right on the TN/MS state line near
Slayden on highway 72. I agree with Kira, a job at a major airline will allow
you to travel the world! I’m a pilot for FedEx, and take advantage of layovers
all over the world, seeing zoos, hiking trails, and more.
My undergraduate degree is from UC Berkeley in Geography, so I enjoy that side
of science as well. I was a docent at the Memphis Zoo for 16 years, where I
was a docent animal presenter, handling birds, mammals, reptiles, and more. I
currently serve on the board of the Wolf River Conservancy in Memphis. We are
a non-profit land trust, protecting the Wolf River, the source of our drinking
water. We are building a 26 mile paved Greenway along the river. We offer
education, conservation, and recreational activities. My favorite thing to do
is show people our native wildlife.
I’m really just a novice and enthusiast. I try to tag along with the
Mississippi Bat Working group when they count or net bats. I even paid to get
rabies inoculated! My bucket list trip would be to see the Okavango.
