Missbirders,
Migration will be over in no time if we don't get some north winds soon!
Gene Knight, Jason Hoeksema, and I birded Rowan Oak this morning. It was
not especially active, but perseverance turned up a few new birds. Jason
had a very out of place MARSH WREN near the museum entrance to Bailey's
Woods. BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, one or possibly two CERULEAN WARBLERS, and an
early BLACKPOLL WARBLER also made an appearance along with an EASTERN
WOOD-PEWEE. A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was singing in my yard when I
returned, and a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO crossed the road ahead of my vehicle
on the way.
No doubt a lot is passing through, but without some weather systems coming
through to slow things down, I'm not sure how much we can expect to enjoy
the transients this spring.
There's rain in the forecast this weekend. Here's hoping for a little
"fallout" in the Jackson area for the MOS meeting.
