Hello, all:
I had a nice morning out along Catlett Road in Madison, near the eagles' nest.
Had a total of 39 species, including one adult and one immature Bald Eagle.
Both were perched well over 1/2 mile from the nest.
I also found a second Madison County Phoebe nest, even further south than the
one at Ed Nichols' place. Parents were either feeding young already, or the
male was bringing food to the female. I will have to study phoebe nesting
habits more closely to know which. I know from some reading that it is not
believed for males to incubate, but it may be possible. Nearly a mile away, I
had another Eastern Phoebe calling, but couldn't locate a nest for it.
Summer Tanagers, Blue Grosbeaks, Prothonotary Warblers, chats and buntings
filled out the best of the rest. Most other species were year round birds.
