I still get confuse to your statement :

And

The advantage is that it is automatic. For example, if you tune from 7 MHz to 
14mhz on. the minima but forget to manually switch the lpf, you will blow the 
PA transistor

If so, what is the advantage of using 4017 compare to manually labelled double 
poles multiple throws simple rotary switch ? I am really confuse, pse explain
