Hello to my MPS colleagues and friends! I have been a member of MPS since
2000, starting off joining the Scientific Program Committee for many years
which led to my introduction to the BOD in 2010 and then culminating as the
first nurse President 2015-17. I remain on the BOD as the MPS Secretary and
remain committed to the success and growth of our organization. My favorite
part of MPS is the networking and friendships I have developed
throughout the years from a multidisciplinary perspective. We can all learn
so much when we get out of our disciplinary silos! I have been saddened by
the lack of in-person connections that I treasured each year at our annual
meetings and appreciate this list serve and our introductions to regain
some connectedness. I am also active and serve on the BOD of the American
Society for Pain Management Nurses. After 25 years working as a CNS in pain
management in inpatient and outpatient settings, in 2018, I started a new
career in Palliative Care working inpatient at Edward Hospital in
Naperville, IL. It has been a nice transition and my years of pain
management have served me, my colleagues and my patients well. In my spare
time, I enjoy staying active and participate in usually one sprint
triathlon a year, spending time with my husband and our grown sons. I'm
definitely enjoying my newest title as Mimi (Grandma) to our almost 1 year
old grandson!
I look forward to learning more about our membership and exchanging ideas
in this format.

I am J. Bruce Hillenberg, PhD, ABPP. I am a clinical health psychologist
in Michigan. I completed my PhD in clinical health psychology at West
Virginia University in 1984. My clinical, educational and research
interests are in self-management of acute pain, chronic pain, and chronic
health conditions, and stress among healthcare professionals. I have a
strong interest in integrating Buddhist psychology and evidence-based
psychological strategies. I retired as Chief of Pain Management for
Beaumont Health in June 2019. I am the Immediate-Past President of the
Midwest Pain Society. I am the current Chair of the Pain Psychology Task
Force for the Michigan Psychological Association. I work half-time in my
private clinical practice. My personal interests include mindfulness
practice, yoga, exercise, gardening, studying history, cooking, traveling,
and spending time with my wife Cindy, two daughters, family members and
friends.
