Hello fellow MPS members,
I would like to join Bruce in introducing myself. I have greatly enjoyed
serving on the MPS membership committee and look forward to meeting more
MPS members, especially once we can can gather in person. I am a pain
psychologist in metro Detroit. I work at the Mary Free Bed
interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation program in Novi. I'm a long-time
Detroiter and got my PhD at Wayne State University in 2011. In my free
time, I spend time with my husband and two kids, and enjoy gardening and
reading.

I am J. Bruce Hillenberg, PhD, ABPP. I am a clinical health psychologist
in Michigan. I completed my PhD in clinical health psychology at West
Virginia University in 1984. My clinical, educational and research
interests are in self-management of acute pain, chronic pain, and chronic
health conditions, and stress among healthcare professionals. I have a
strong interest in integrating Buddhist psychology and evidence-based
psychological strategies. I retired as Chief of Pain Management for
Beaumont Health in June 2019. I am the Immediate-Past President of the
Midwest Pain Society. I am the current Chair of the Pain Psychology Task
Force for the Michigan Psychological Association. I work half-time in my
private clinical practice. My personal interests include mindfulness
practice, yoga, exercise, gardening, studying history, cooking, traveling,
and spending time with my wife Cindy, two daughters, family members and
friends.
